Our Customers Are Kings! An understanding and way of doing business for which Queen City was founded. This understanding, still holds as true today as it did when we delivered our first order more than 60 years ago.

Our Values

Queen City has been owned and operated by the same two families since 1961. There’s something to be said about family run businesses – they’re just better!

Established in 1945, we are a family owned and operated broad line wholesale company. We provide distribution services locally to Sioux Falls, South Dakota, along with other cities in eastern South Dakota.

Without corporate constraints or national campaigns, we are more flexible than most other distributors. Don’t worry, that doesn’t give us any less access to products. We can typically find any specific product our customers need. All of this while catering to both high-volume businesses and the smaller “mom ‘n pop” shops.

We say yes to the small accounts many larger distributors aren’t flexible enough to take on. And we happily do so with no added “convenience” or “service” fees for these smaller accounts.

Did someone say Free Delivery? Yes, we did! For more than 60 years, we are proud to say we have operated without a delivery or fuel surcharge. We also have no minimum order requirements.

Our History in Wholesale

• The Queen City Wholesale we are today began as O’Mara Candy Company in May of 1945 with owners V.J. O’Mara, R.J. Dargen and Eugene Mahoney.

• In January of 1948, O’Mara Candy Company was incorporated as Queen City Wholesalers Incorporated. Incorporation also brought along some ownership changes. After incorporation, R.J. Dargen was was the only original owner involved with the company. Two new partners entered at this time also: Mike Kirk and H.L. Lewis.

• The company changed hands yet again only five years later in 1952 with original O’Mara Candy Company co-owner, Eugene Mahoney, returning along with new partner Bernard Koplow.

• Mahoney and Koplow owned and operated Queen City for 10 years. On January 21, 1961, brothers, and Queen City employees, Dale and Wayne Wehrkamp along with wives Pat and Ardell purchased the company.

• Since 1961, the two families of Dale and Wayne have owned and continue to operate Queen City. Expanding over the years adding talented staff members and more than 60 communities of people we serve – all of whom we consider our family.
